New Systec™ High-Flow Degassing System Improves Analyzer Dispense Precision and Cost of Ownership

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

August 22, 2011: Parallel demands for increased detection sensitivity and faster throughput often conflict in today’s high throughput chemistry analyzers. Core performance requirements in such systems include extreme accuracy and precision in the aspiration and dispensing of system liquids with sample volumes of 100 µL or less. This creates a heightened sensitivity and eventual need for preventing bubble formation through degassing technology. As the demand for faster batch processing meets the capability of analyzing ever-smaller samples, the negative consequence of bubbles and gases in system fluids increases enormously. The current techniques used by instrument manufacturers to address the bubble problem are often configured with inexpensive sensors, inadequate condensation controls, and short pump lifetimes in inconvenient sizes which prove inadequate at meeting the needs of today’s analyzers.

Building on proprietary technology honed for more than 20 years, the Systec High-Flow Degasser removes dissolved air from system liquids, and prevents bubble formation, at fluid rates of up to one liter per minute — enough for high-throughput instruments. Compatible with a broad range of chemicals, and offering multiple combinations of long-life pump sizes, membrane sizes, and system configurations, the new degasser easily retrofits into existing instruments. The Systec High Flow Degasser has been uniquely designed for the wide array of chemicals and cleaning techniques, including bleach, other strong oxidizers, surfactants, steam, and autoclave sterilizing to serve IVD applications. In addition, by providing alarm and sensor functions via LED or electrical outputs, the High-Flow Degasser reduces troubleshooting and instrument downtime by connecting to instrument electronics or generating visual signals that can be monitored during standard maintenance.

“Since we introduced the High-Flow Degasser in July at AACC,” commented Joseph Rotter, Systec Product Manager, “several OEMs have already requested units for testing in existing systems. Also — a pleasant surprise to me — is the number of inquiries received from IVD instrument design groups outside the clinical chemistry space, including immunoassay and hematology groups. They clearly see the value and the need as their instrument technology reaches for higher throughput and performance.”
